My Journey

Every title, setback, comeback, and lesson has shaped the coach I am today. This is the journey that fuels how I train, teach, and empower every athlete I work with.

The beginning

Where My Story Began

I started gymnastics at two and a half years old — being an athlete was in my blood. My mom was one of the first female powerlifter-bodybuilders where I grew up in Canada, and my dad was a hockey goalie and coach. I competed for Team Canada in gymnastics and was on my way to the 1988 Olympic trials when a serious injury ended that chapter before I ever got my shot. That loss changed my life. But it also taught me the lesson I’ve built everything on since: when one door closes, you dig deep and find another.

Finding the weight room

Strength Became My Calling

I found the weight room in high school — I walked past it in grade nine and won a bench press competition I didn’t even know I’d entered. That was the itch. I wanted to see what my body, my mind, and my strength could really do. I started coaching younger gymnasts, then studied fitness, nutrition, and training at Ryerson (now Toronto Metropolitan University) so I could understand the human body inside and out.

The Comebacks

Built Through Every Setback

Two weeks before my first fitness competition in 1999, I was in a serious car accident. My muscle saved my life. I fought back from internal injuries and torn muscles, and I learned how to train intelligently around injury — a skill I now bring to every client. Doctors told me I might not walk the same again. I’ve been making the impossible possible ever since.

I began competing in bodybuilding in the early 2000s, turned Pro in 2011 at the North American Championships in Cleveland, and later came back from a 2018 triceps tear that required surgery — building a posing routine that showed the judges I had no weaknesses at all.

The Why

Why I Do What I Do

No matter what life throws at you — loss, injury, the death of a goal — you can always count on the gym to help you heal and rebuild. It’s where I found myself, again and again. Posing became my art form, my way to tell a story on stage. Now I teach others to do the same: to understand their bodies, express themselves, and believe in what’s possible.

Believing in yourself is your superpower.
